Why Duplicate Content Matters for SEO
Duplicate content is text that appears identically or in a substantially similar form on more than one URL, within a website or across domains. When several pages cover the same material, choosing a clear preferred version helps search engines and visitors find the right page.
Lumenario's Content Duplication Tool compares selected pages and surfaces overlapping passages, helping you choose what to rewrite, consolidate, redirect, or canonicalize.
Review competing pages. Pages that answer the same search intent can overlap unnecessarily. Compare their content before deciding whether to combine them or give each a distinct focus.
Consolidate link signals. Use consistent internal links and canonical signals to point toward the preferred version, rather than spreading references across equivalent URLs.
Make crawling more efficient. Large collections of duplicate URLs can use crawling time that could go toward new or updated content. This is especially relevant on large websites.

Key Features & Benefits
Exact and near-duplicate review
Find matching text and passages with similar meaning, even when their wording differs. Review the matches before deciding what to change.
Passage-by-passage comparisons
See the saved text from both pages together, with overlap percentages for each direction. Understand how much of each page is shared.
Prioritize content overlap
Search your pages, sort by highest overlap, and identify blogs, product descriptions, or category pages worth consolidating or differentiating.
Bulk page selection
Select up to 1000 URLs in one run. The tool selects pages with similar overall content for detailed passage comparisons, and the report shows which pages were compared.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between exact duplicates and near-duplicates?
Exact duplicates contain identical text, word for word. Near-duplicates share substantially similar content, with changes such as locations, names, wording, or a few sentences. Review the matching passages and each page's purpose before deciding whether to keep, combine, or differentiate them.
How do I fix duplicate content issues once I find them?
Choose the approach that fits the purpose of the pages:
Use a 301 redirect when retiring a duplicate page and sending visitors to an equivalent preferred page.
Add a rel="canonical" tag when similar pages need to remain accessible, pointing to the preferred version.
Rewrite or consolidate the content so that each remaining page serves a distinct, useful purpose.
Is it normal to have some duplicate content?
Yes. Shared navigation, footers, and standard legal text are normal. Ordinary duplicate content is not automatically a Google spam-policy violation. Lumenario focuses on extracted main content and removes common navigation and footer elements before comparing pages.
Does a short page always mean thin content?
No. A short page can fully answer a visitor's question. Review whether it provides useful, original information for its purpose, rather than judging quality by word count alone. The checker compares qualifying text and skips pages without enough text to compare; it does not assign a thin-content score.
