Dr. P. Ramasamy completed his Ph.D. in Physics in 1967 from the University of Madras and won the Governor-Chancellor’s Gold medal for the best thesis of the year. He is a former Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University and the Founder and Director of the Crystal Growth Centre at Anna University. Dr. Ramasamy is a recipient of UNESCO's instituted Neil Bohr’s Gold Medal in 1998 and has received the Kharazmi International Festival Award in 1998 from the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. A study undertaken by the National Institute of Science and Technology and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India, named Dr. Ramasamy among the most productive scientists in India (period 1996-2006). Dr. Ramasamy has been awarded more than 40 international fellowships and has written seven books and edited 15. He has 76 projects from various funding agencies with a total budget of 28.90 crore. 86 research scholars have completed Ph.D.s under his guidance, and 8 research scholars are currently working. More than 500 research scholars have so far taken Ph.D. research through Prof. Dr. Ramasamy and his earlier students. He has published 911 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and presented more than 1500 papers at international and national conferences, workshops, and seminars.
