How Is Car Insurance Premium Calculated?
IRDAI sets third-party premium rates each year based on engine size. Own-damage rates are based on factors such as the car's value, age, number of claims, and any add-ons. Actuarial models help insurers estimate the likelihood of a risk and the potential harm it could cause.
Important Note
Third-party premium rates are set by IRDAI and identical across every insurer for a given engine capacity. Any difference you see between two quotes comes entirely from the Own Damage premium and the add-ons selected, not the third-party portion.
